My First Sighting of Bluebonnets

On Monday afternoon, while driving home from work, I spotted bluebonnets growing in the median.  Fortunately for me I was stuck in traffic (there was a wreck ahead) and had my camera with me so I was able to get a few photos before moving on.

I am hoping they are plentiful this year since we have had a considerable amount of rain in the last several months.

For those of you that aren't familiar with the bluebonnet it is the State Flower of Texas.  It is most commonly seen along roadsides and in uncultivated pastures throughout the state.

Here is a quote from Jack Maguire, Historian, "The bluebonnet is to Texas what the shamrock is to Ireland, the cherry blossom to Japan, the lily to France, the rose to England and the tulip to Holland."  In other words, we are very serious about our bluebonnets.  :)

Here is a website where you can see the latest sighting of bluebonnets.

Here's to many more sightings of bluebonnets!!!

Take care,

Debbie

  1. I've seen pictures in the past with fields completely filled with the flowers. Must be really beautiful to see up close in person.
