Container Gardening

See my pallet....I had the hubs steal it from the neighbors trash!!!
I guess I am officially a gardener...a container gardener that is!  Nelly had gone a little crazy with her seeds and had extra plants so she shared them.  :)

She suggested that I use the Home Depot orange buckets for my containers.  I think they are kinda cute.  The orange color is a nice compliment to the stones.

The hubs made six holes in the bottom for good drainage.

I  know the hubs probably thought I had gone crazy (he does not eat any of this) but he didn't say anything.  He assisted as needed.

Here is a list of the plants she gave me:

Rutgers Tomato

Little Fingers Eggplant

Oops!  Rutgers Tomato plant snapped!
My first casualty was snapping the stalk of the Rutgers tomato plant.  I was so bummed.  I sent her a text telling her what happened and she said to stick the plant that had broken off deep into the soil and it should grow roots.  So I dug it out of the trash and planted it next to the stub of a stem.  I am hoping that it does grow roots.

I left the red cups (labeled with the name of each plant) until I make plant markers.
I have to admit I am really excited about my container garden.  I'll be checking it on a daily basis to see if there is any growth.  :)  And to make sure the squirrels are staying out of them!!!

I have a feeling that if these plants produce veggies I am going to be hooked.  How do you like my fancy containers?

Take care,

Debbie

A Bit of Randomness

Girls selling cookies last weekend
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend with beautiful weather.  We were blessed with lots of sunshine and blue skies.  Just what we needed after all of that rain.

The hubs was out of town for his yearly golf outing with his closest friends so I had the house all to myself.   Not that I did anything exciting.  :)  I cleaned out closets, drawers, and purged.  Oh how I love to purge!  Such an awesome feeling.

Babysitting Mr. W
The sweetest moment for me this weekend was after church when Mr. W came out of the daycare area.  He saw me, yelled "maw maw" and ran to me as fast as his little legs could run.  He jumped so I could pick him up and he started jibber jabbering....looking straight into my eyes to make sure he had my full attention.  He had so much to tell me and was so animated.  I couldn't help but think of Grandy (hub's grandmother).  She would sit and listen to the hubs talk on and on and appear to be genuinely interested.  One day I asked her how she was so patient to hear him ramble on (he is known to speak in circles)....her reply was I'll listen to anything he has to say.  I now know what she meant.  I could listen to Mr. W and the girls forever.

Hope you have a very blessed day.

Take care,

Debbie

Pretty Woman Turns 25!!!

Wow!!!  I can't believe the movie Pretty Woman is 25 years old!!!
I can't begin to tell you how many times I have watched this movie over the years.
I've seen it at the movies, watched it on VHS, and now watch it on a DVD.

I have always been a huge fan of Richard Gere so it was a natural for me to choose this movie.  I fell in love with Julia Roberts after seeing her in this movie.

A funny story....on one of our first dates, the hubs and I went to see a movie with Richard Gere (I forget the name of the movie).  It was so bad!!!  I slept through the entire movie while he watched it.  Looking back, he probably thinks that should have been a sign!  I can't tell you how many movies I have gone to sleep on.  If they are boring or not my type, I am gone.  Not him.  If he starts a movie he has to watch it to the end.  :)

I am going to watch it again this weekend!!!  You really should watch it if you haven't already seen it.  It's definitely a "feel good" movie.

Hope you have a wonderful day!

Take care,

Debbie

Plans for My Office

I have been gathering ideas together on a mood board for my office.

I'd like to paint the walls a pretty gray
Draw a few Mickey's around the room
Paint the cabinets black
Dress up the cabinet doors with either mirrors, paper, or some sort of trim
Add touches of gold for a bit of glam
Black and white drapes

Are you working on any mood boards for your home?

Hope you have a great day!

Take care,

Debbie

Blake Shelton Concert at Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo

We had a wonderful time at the Blake Shelton Concert at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

Bull outside of the NRG Stadium
Everyone always talks about the fried Oreos so we finally tried them.  Neither one of us were crazy about them and won't get them again.  At least we can say we tried them.  :)

This food booth was located next to the booth where we purchased the fried Oreos.  You should have seen how big everything was!  An order of french fries could have fed quite a few people!  Seriously.

The Houston Astrodome (officially named the NRG Astrodome) is the world's first multi-purpose, domed sports stadium located in Houston, TX.  It served as the second home to the Houston Astros from its opening until 1999.  The Astrodome was the primary venue for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo from 1966 until 2002.  It opened in 1965 as Harris County Domed Stadium and was nicknamed the "Eighth Wonder of the World".

We were so lucky the rain stopped and the weather cleared up.

Here are a few photos of the food that was served in the suite.  There were lots of good things to eat.

Like fried shrimp, fried fish, peach cobbler pie and ice cream....

chicken strips, mashed potatoes, dips, etc.

It was all good!

Here's an idea of how high we were....

I took so many photos but due to the light show so many of them did not come out.

Blake Shelton put on an amazing concert.  You can tell that he is the "real deal".  He said this was his fifth time to perform at the rodeo and he still gets nervous.

He changed guitars almost every song.

Here's an idea of what the lights looked like from our seats.

We had a great time!!!  We definitely want to see him again when he comes back to Houston.

Hope you are having nice weather where ever you are.  The rain has finally stopped and the sun is shining here.  Woo Hoo!!!

Take care,

Debbie

Over the Moon!!!

The hubs and I are going to see Blake Shelton!!!  I've just been given two tickets (a few minutes ago) to see Blake Shelton in concert at the Houston Livestock Rodeo tomorrow night.  These aren't just any tickets.  These are suite tickets.  This means free food and drinks.  Woo Hoo!!!  OMG!!!  We love Blake Shelton.

This is one of my many favorite songs of his....

Hope you have a very blessed day.

Take care,

Debbie

Billy Currington

The hubs and I went to the Houston Livestock and Rodeo on Saturday to see Billy Currington.  The weather was gorgeous so we knew there would be a lot of people there considering it had rained most of the week before.  There were about 74,748 in paid attendance.  As of Sunday, he was just behind Pit Bull in attendance.

Our timing was perfect.  We arrived at our seats just in time for the prayers and the National Anthem.  I wish my hands hadn't been full with my food because I would have loved to take photos of the beautiful girl riding a pretty horse, holding the American flag.  It was beautiful.

Our seats were great.  This was the first time in a very long time we were not sitting behind the chutes.  :)  It's always a little smelly there!

Here are  a few pics of some of the events.

Thank goodness for the clowns.  They play such an important role in keeping the cowboys safe.
The wagon races are always fun.

Radio station 93Q won this round.

One of the most favorite events is the Calf Scramble.  With the drop of a hat, 15 calves are released into the arena for 30 4-H and FFA members to chase and attempt to catch.  Once they catch the calf they have to put a rope around the calf's neck and pull them to the center of the arena.  Sounds easy right?

Hardly!  As you can see from the photos it is very hard to do.  I wish all of my photos had come out so you could see how hard they work to get these calves.  Each student that catches a calf and gets it to the center is awarded a $1,500 certificate to purchase a registered heifer or market steer to show at the Houston Livestock Show the next year.

The crowd gets involved by cheering them on to help encourage them not to give up.  It is very heartwarming.  There was a lot of teamwork this year.  There were students that did not have a calf but they were helping those that did push and pull their calf to the center of the arena.  It was very moving.

Another fan favorite is the Mutton Bustin'.  The youngest rodeo contestants, dressed in their Western wear, participate in the beloved Mutton Bustin' event.  Before the concert, a group of determined 5 and 6 year olds (cannot weigh more than 55 pounds) spring out of the chute holding on to a sheep, or mutton for a crazy ride.  The rider that holds on the longest receives a champion belt buckle.

There were quite a few girls participating this year.

This little guy won.  During the interview they asked him if he had practiced.  To everyone's delight he replied "Yes, I practiced on my dog".  It was adorable.  The belt buckle he was awarded was huge.

The hubs was familiar with some of Billy Currington's songs because I have played them while hanging around the pool.  He has heard some of them more times than he cares to admit.

The band started out with "I Got A Feeling".

My absolute favorite is "Must Be Doing Something Right".  I LOVE LOVE LOVE this song.  This song was my one request to the DJ for Brooke and Brad's wedding reception.  The hubs was told that no matter where he was at the reception, if he heard that song he was to meet me on the dance floor.  Needless to say we danced to the entire song on the third attempt.  :)

Here are a few others for your listening.

He did a great job on Mark Ronson/Bruno Mars hit "Uptown Funk".  Another one of my favorites.

Here's a pic of us after the rodeo.  We were waiting for the crowds to thin out.  His idea, not mine.  :)

Houston Texans Practice Field
I thought the Ferris Wheel looked pretty with the lights on.

We had a really great time.  While waiting for the bus, the hubs asked me if Billy Currington had a greatest hits album.  Hmm...I think someone has joined my listening list.  :)

Hope you have a great week!!!

Take care,

Debbie
