Mosquito Time!!!

Wow....the mosquitoes are crazy here with all the rain we have had over the last several months.  We use Mosquito Magic to help keep them from being little pests while we are hanging out around the pool.  I sprinkle it around the pool an hour before we go out.  It usually lasts for a couple of weeks, sometimes longer, depending on how much rain we get.

Mosquito Magic Crystals 2 Pack! Shake the crystals out over an outdoor area to create a flying pest free zone!

Mosquito Magic is an all natural mosquito repellent that is safe for children and animals.

One More Spring Fling for Houston

Woo Hoo!!!

Our weather has changed for the better.  Here's what the 'SciGuy' Eric Berger has to say about our weather forecast.  :)

"The cold front has arrived.  Clouds will linger today and with the drier air blowing in we'll see uncharacteristically cool temperatures for late April with highs of only around 70 degrees.

Houston has not had a high temperature below 73 degrees since late March.

Tonight should also easily be the region's coldest night since late March, with lows falling into the upper 40's and lower 50's in northern parts of the metro area, and mostly into the upper 50's closer to the coast.

The sunshine should return Wednesday, and we're going to remain under the influence of a mostly northerly flow for the rest of the week.

Temperatures will only slowly warm up, with highs climbing to 80 degrees by Sunday, and overnight lows into the upper 60's by Sunday morning.

In short, our weather will be amazing for late April and early May."

Did you read that?  Amazing!!!  We have not had this many days of sun in a very long time!!!  Look out Home Depot, Lowes, and the Houston Garden Center.  Everyone will be out buying plants and flowers to freshen up their yards!!!

“71″
Houston to summer:
We are not ready just yet,
thanks for easing off.

Wishing you lots of sunshine today and every day!!!

Take care,

Debbie

A Baby Dove is Born

While we were working away cleaning the shed, the hubs discovered one of the baby Doves was born!!!  Isn't it adorable?  I wonder how much longer until the second one is born.

I can't tell you how much I have fretted over these baby birds.  We have had really bad rain storms for weeks now....all while these eggs were in the nest.  I am talking 60-70 mile per hour winds, hail, 4.6 inches of rain in one evening!  Not your typical rain.  I have shared my concerns drove the hubs crazy all along.  I wanted to prop an umbrella over the nest, move the nest under the patio, etc.  He didn't think any of those were a good idea so I was very relieved to see one had hatched.

Naturally I wanted to video it and my camera was no where to be found (all.weekend.long!).  Thank goodness for iPhones!  I hope you enjoy our little miracle!!!

Have you had any sweet baby birds born in your yard?

Take care,

Debbie

First Pool Party of 2015

On Friday, my sweet family was kind enough to send me a photo of them having fun in our pool.  ;-)   The first pool party of 2015.  It was a bit impromptu but those are usually the most fun!  My boss surprised me and let me go early so I crashed their party!  The water was 82 degrees....still a little chilly for the adults but the kids didn't care.

I hadn't made it to the store yet so the only snack I had to offer was the Mickey Mouse Popsicle pops I told you about here.  They were over the moon.  It was adorable when Mr. W was finished with his and he kept telling me "more, more" as he was signing the word.  I really need to order another set so they can have more than one.

On Saturday Ms. A's flag football game was cancelled due to the rain storm.  Poor baby.  This is her second game to be cancelled due to rain.

The hubs and I made a run to Sam's and bought snacks and a beautiful new rug for the patio.  I was looking for the "right" one and there it was for $76.00.  I am so excited to put it out.  We called the kids on our way home and they all showed up shortly to swim.  (We are so blessed to have them close by.)  We had a lot of fun.  Mr. W is loving having snacks poolside.  It is adorable (and I have no photos - kept forgetting my camera all weekend!).  He sits on the edge in the shallow area so his feet can splash in the water as he eats or drinks.

I had the Disney songs playing on Pandora.  One time he came up to me so excited saying maw maw....let it go!  So naturally we all started singing along with the song.  He doesn't like anyone to sing along (with any song) or dance so he gets this serious look on his face and shouts no to all of us.  Of course, we keep singing.  It is so darn cute.  I'll have to get it on video.  His mom says he does it in the car, at home...really everywhere.

On Sunday the hubs and I much to his dismay cleaned out the shed.  The shed houses our yard tools, chair cushions, pillows, pool toys, pool chemicals, and lanterns, etc. I wanted to get things cleaned out and organized.  If you know the hubs, you know that he is very organized and his stuff is ALWAYS in its place.  ALWAYS!!!  Naturally when you reorganize a space (like the shed) it always gets worse before it gets better.  I am a purger.  I love to purge and pass things on that we no longer need to someone that could use it.  I could see he didn't like me questioning why we were keeping something that we had not used in years.  He told me it was his stuff.  It reminded me of trying to clean out the kids toy boxes with them in the room.  Every thing you put in a pile to throw away gets right back in!  I'm happy to say we did a great job and got rid of a lot of junk.

We gave our neighbor some pool toys and a Croquet set similar to this one.

Funny story.  Years ago (Brooke was maybe 6 years old/pre pool) I had a great idea to get a Croquet set for us to play as a family.  Bonding time, right?  Wrong!!!  It wasn't long before we were all fussing and fighting because somebody would cheat or hit the ball really hard and knock us out of the way.  Tempers were flying.  Needless to say it is a fond memory....but not one of the best!!!  I think we played a couple more times after that.  :)

Our neighbors had a birthday/pool party on Sunday so we didn't get a chance to power wash the patio.  (That would have been rude!)   We  have a cold front coming in today so the night temps will drop to the 50's so we won't be swimming this week.  :)  This should give us time to get the power washing done and the new rug out.  I can't wait to see the transformation.

I did manage to watch the movie Heaven is For Real.  I had recorded it back in February but wasn't ready to watch it.  It was really good....definitely a tear jerker.  Connor Corum is adorable.

I finished the first book of the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.  I really enjoyed it.  I have started the second book, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.  I had no idea how easy and fun it would be to read these books.  Are you a Harry Potter fan?  Now I am ready to go back to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter Universal Studios Orlando.

How was your weekend?  Did you tackle any projects on your list?

Hope you have a wonderful day!

Take care,

Debbie

Getting Ready for Our First Swim

Mickey Mouse Popsicle Molds - Summer Fun

There are many things we do to prepare for our first swim but the most important for the grandkids are the Mickey Mouse Popsicle molds.  They love eating them in the pool.  They will choose them over fancy Popsicles you buy at the store.  Must be the Mickey charm, right?  ;)  Of course!

Sweet P looks so little here....you can see Ms. A eating her Mickey Popsicle in the background.

Mr. W uses his Mickey Popsicle holder as a toy.  It looks like he is saying "ungar" (like a sword?).

I am so excited to see him play in the pool now that he is older.  There is no doubt in my mind that he will be wanting to jump into the deep end with his sisters.  We will all be on point the entire time and exhausted when it's over!   I am sure all we will hear is Bradley.  He loves his uncle Bradley.

A funny note for us....Sweet P calls her paw paw "poppy".  We think she got it from Dora the Explorer.  Now Mr. W calls paw paw "poppy".  It is the cutest thing.

We will be stocking up the fridge with their Capri Suns and bottled water.  The hubs and I love watching them help themselves.  They think they are the bomb because they can get their own stuff as they want it....until mom says something!

We will have plenty of bottled water....

lots of Capri Suns....

some of these for Mr. W.....
a couple of these...

a big bag of these.....

lots of these.....

and of course these soft sugar cookies!!!

and last but not least lots of fun Disney songs on Pandora.  I'm sure we'll hear this one a couple of times!!!  :)

Happy Friday!!!

Looks like Mr. W made quite a major fashion statement yesterday when he went riding on their motor bikes.  His mom said he would not leave home without the boots.  They aren't even his...they are his sisters' because his boots don't fit him anymore.  :)

His mom had her first pair of cowboy boots at two years old.  She would wear those boots 24/7.  I was a single mom so she and I slept together.  Needless to say I would wake up with bruises on my legs from her kicking me at night.  :)  She would only take them off to bathe and that was it.

One of the perks of homeschooling is you can do fun things during the week.  Here's a pic of all three of them taking a snack break.  Don't you just love the do-rags?

Do you have any plans for the weekend?  We are supposed to go to Ms. A's flag football game in the morning if it doesn't rain.  Ms. A is the only girl on an all boy's team/all boy's league.  She loves football...especially the Houston Texans!!!  She can tell you anything you want to know about any of the players.  Her favorite player is JJ Watt.  After her game, we are all supposed to go swimming if the weather is accommodating.  Here's hoping for no rain and the temperature to be warm enough.  :)

Hope you have a wonderful weekend spending time with the ones you love!!!

Take care,

Debbie

Mascara Update

I did a post here on the Benefit Roller Lash Mascara.  I want to give you an update on my thoughts of the mascara after using it for one month.

I am sad to say that I am no longer using the mascara.  I loved the way it curled my lashes but I did not like how hard it was to remove the mascara from my lashes.  I found it to be very similar to waterproof mascara and I loathe waterproof mascara.  I found it to be harsh on my lashes and I noticed I was losing lashes.  I don't know about you but I don't have lashes to spare.  :)

So I am back to using my oldie but goodie, Sumptuous Mascara by Estee Lauder.

Do you wear mascara?  If so, what is your favorite brand to wear?

Take care,

Debbie

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

Image result for harry potter and the sorcerer's stone book

Never say never!!!  I did a post here on my Harry Potter movie marathon.  In that post I said I wasn't interested in reading the Harry Potter series.  Well.....I started reading the first book on Saturday and I love it!!!  Sweet P has given me the advice to read the book first then watch the movie.  Spoken like a true expert.  Right?   A six year old expert!!!

Ms. A is on the fifth book and she said we should have a race to see who finishes first!  Sounds like a rigged race to me!!!  I'll NEVER catch up with her.

Have you read the Harry Potter series?

Take care,

Debbie

Weekend Fun

I had the pleasure of keeping Mr. W on Friday morning while his mom and sisters went to see Frozen Disney On Ice.  By the way, they said it was the best ever!

I love his curls!!!

We had a great time playing with his toys and reading his many books.  He is such a hoot!!!

I found these Laura Ashley sheets for $30.00 at TJ Maxx.  I love how well they match the cornice.  Now if I would just make the pillows for the bed!!!  :)

Sweet P made her First Communion on Sunday.  We are so proud of her!!!

Sunday turned out to be a beautiful day after all of the rain we had this weekend.

The Knockout Roses are in full bloom.

The water looked so tempting until you your foot in and realized just how cold it was....76 degrees is not very warm when it comes to swimming.

We are back on track in preparing our food for the week.  We grilled chicken breasts, pork chops, and deer and pork sausage.

We have enough for our lunches and dinners for the rest of the week.  All we have to do is prepare the sides (i.e. green beans, sweet potatoes, etc.).  Easy peasy!!!

Do you ever grill for a week at a time?   If so, what do you like to grill?

Take care,

Debbie

A Tea Party with Daisies

I had the pleasure of taking Sweet P to her first official tea party this past Saturday morning.  The Daisies held a tea party at the Four Friends Tea Room in Pearland.

Warning!!!  Lots of photos ahead!

Upon entering the front door you immediately find a couple of tables with some old time hats for decor.

We have lived in Pearland for 25+ years and this was my first visit to Four Friends Tea Room.  Why did I wait so long?  We had a wonderful time.

Each table had the supplies needed for the girls to make their very own bonnets.  The bonnets were made of a paper plate with a bowl glued to it.  The bonnets were painted in different spring colors.  There were lots of pretty ribbons, flowers and bright feathers to decorate the bonnets.

Here we are waiting patiently for the fun to begin!!!

Ms. Sherry gave the girls instructions on the following:

Decorating the bonnets
Setting a place at the table
Holding a teacup
Stirring tea in a cup
Pouring tea from a teapot

Table Manners
Speaking softly
Not reaching across the table to get something
Placing napkin in chair to leave table

A cute photo of Sweet P and her friends with their newly decorated bonnets.  They are adorable!

Sweet P practicing drinking from her teacup.

My menu choices.

My lunch was delicious!!!

Sweet P chose ham and cheese sandwiches.

Her sandwiches were shaped like teacups.

Her meal came with two cute little cupcakes.  She tried really hard to share with me but I finally convinced her to save it just in case she wanted it.  She was very happy she did!!!

She chose water as her drink.

After everyone was finished they passed around the dessert tray.

The chocolate covered peanuts caught her eye.  I told her it was all about her and she could have whatever she wanted.  She loves hearing me say that!

She wanted me to get a photo of her empty teapot.

After the tea party the girls gathered outside for several group photos.

In the gift shop she bought a beautiful silver dress with a hat for her American Doll.  I told her we can go back and she can bring her doll in her new dress.

As we drove up her driveway one of her favorite songs "Sugar" by Adam Levine came on.  So we sat in the car and listened to the rest of it, singing along and having fun!!!  WARNING!!!  I cannot carry a tune!!!!

We had a great time!!!  It is so awesome being a grandma!!!

Hope you have a great day!!!

Take care,

Debbie
