Friday Ramblings

Happy Friday to you!!!  Do you have any special plans for the weekend?  I am hoping the hubs and I get a chance to install the new hardware in my office I shared with you here.  I can't believe I've had the hardware for two months and it hasn't been installed.  That's probably a first for me.  The hubs suggested that we wait until after Christmas so the mess wouldn't get all over my Christmas decor and I obliged.

Last night the hubs came home to one of his favorite meals.  Roast.  My family loves this recipe.  I am quite sure I will hear it from the girls when they find out I cooked one and didn't invite them over for dinner.  In my defense, the roast was too small for everyone and I needed to throw something together for dinner.  Something that could cook itself while I was busy painting.

So when the hubs came home one side of the kitchen looked like this....

and the other side looked like this!
This is the beginnings of my new master piece.  Ha ha!!!

I am working on my winter themed decor for the mantle.  My Disney tree was sitting on top of this board which was on top of the toy chest (to provide stability).  I had an idea to paint it and use it for my winter decor on the mantle.

This is what it looked like before....

I painted two coats of white enamel paint (left over trim paint).

Next I used two inch painters tape and taped off my stripes.  As you can see,  I used a piece of tape as my spacer.  It works really well.

This my friend is where I messed up.  You know the saying Oprah always used "when you know better you do better".  Well I knew better but I got in a rush and skipped a very important step.  After I taped off my stripes I should have painted another coat of white paint.  This would have sealed off the space under the tape and I would not have had....

this hot mess to deal with!  But instead, I went ahead and painted two coats of the gray paint (leftover from my office).  But that's okay.  I got out my handy dandy artist brush and fixed it right up.

As you can see, it looks a lot better....not perfect...but much cleaner looking.

I hope to have it finished over the weekend so I can share it with you on Monday.

Are you doing anything special over the weekend?

Enjoy the weekend....

xoxoxo

  1. I'll be looking forward to seeing your mantel come Monday. I had special plans for the weekend, namely to collapse and enjoy myself reading, but my husband decided to volunteer my services to cook a complete meal(roast and all of the trimmings) for some ailing neighbors. Fool that he is, he only bought enough to serve them, so it looks like we'll be ordering pizza for the two of us. Grrrr!

    1. Oh Pattie!!! I hope you find some time to rest. How classic...cooking a homemade meal for your neighbors (huge props) and you eating pizza. I think that sums up life, don't you? Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
