I couldn't resist taking a pic of the beautiful sky and clouds. |
I had the pleasure of going to Kickapoo Kamp for the Mother/Daughter Weekend with my daughters Brooke and Tiffani along with my two granddaughters Ms. A and Sweet P. Kickapoo Kamp is in Kerville, TX. Kerville is 274 miles from Pearland, approximately 5 hours depending on traffic. We left at 2 p.m. and we caught traffic all the way there. We arrived at 7:15 p.m. just in time to eat dinner. (They close down the kitchen at 7:30 p.m.). We had spaghetti and salad for dinner. For dessert we had a scoop of cookies-n-cream ice cream.
This was our view when we arrived. It was so pretty.
Our cabin was located in the upper area. We did a lot of walking back and forth to our cabin. You can kind of get an idea in this photo of how steep the walk up was here.
The walk down wasn't as bad. :) But you still had to be careful so you didn't tumble down the pathway!
Our cabin is way up there at the very tip top.
Welcome to Cabin Four. Our home for the weekend.
The cabin was furnished with five sets of bunk beds, a fan, hand soap and toilet paper. That's it. You have to provide everything else.
The day we arrived it was pretty warm so we were quite happy to see there was a fan in our cabin. Tiffani brought a box fan, too.
There was a shower along with a toilet enclosed in a little closet.
This was a really large closet that we used to change our clothes.
On our first night, after dinner, we played Bingo.
Brooke won one of the games. The prize was an assortment of candy and rings for everyone in our group.
I was trying to capture the lightning behind the clouds. This should have been a warning of what we had ahead of us. :)
The grounds are beautiful.
Here are the moms trying to decide if they are going to participate in the mother/daughter races on Saturday evening.
A few pics of the kiddos in bed.
Around 2 a.m. in the morning a REALLY BAD lightning storm came through. I tried so hard to capture the lightning but this was the best I could get. Imagine having a lighting storm for at least 45 minutes (or longer) with a front row seat. Not my favorite thing to do. After the storm a cold front came through. It got really cold! :)
The next morning you couldn't even tell there had been a storm. We were blessed with gorgeous weather.
We had breakfast at 8:15 a.m. They served egg and bacon tacos, an assortment of cereals, yogurts, milk, orange juice, coffee and hot chocolate.
The grounds were so clean and well kept.
I loved the assortment of plants and flowers.
Our cabin's schedule for Saturday:
8:15 a.m. Breakfast
10:15 a.m. Hike
12:30 p.m. Lunch
3 p.m. Water Weenie
4:15 p.m. Horse Riding
5:30 Riflery
6:30 p.m. Dinner
7:30 p.m. Mother/Daughter Races
We saw a snake on our walk to archery and canoeing.
Isn't it beautiful?
I shocked everyone when I took my turn at archery. I had six arrows and I only missed two. I surprised myself when one of them landed on the target. :) It was so much fun!
Janelle and Ms. J went canoeing while we took another turn at archery.
We were scheduled for a hike up Kickapoo Mountain for 10:15 a.m. It was a long way up.
Can you see the main area where we ate our meals?
You can see the stables in the foreground.
We ended our hike in this area. The water was a little chilly but it felt so good after getting warm on the hike.
Here's a cute pic of Janelle and Ms. J.
All four of the girls fell into the water and got wet.
Here's a view from the backside of where the water dropped off. It looks like an infinity pool.
On the walk back I couldn't resist taking photos of the wild flowers.
These white flowers were so pretty. I wish I had wild flowers like these growing in my yard.
For lunch we had chicken nuggets, chicken patties, mac-n-cheese, rolls, mini corn dogs, salad and pound cake. It was so good. We were starved after the hike.
After lunch Tiffani and the girls rode the water weenie and slid down the slide. I don't go into any water that I can't see the bottom so I stayed back in the cabin reading my book.
How cute are these girls? We were waiting to go horseback riding. We weren't allowed to take our cameras while riding so this is the only photo I have. The counselors took pics of us on the horses with Tiffani's camera.
I could hang out here all day long.
Here are the girls at riflery. Out of five shots I managed to hit the target twice and on the outside of the target two more times.
Go Ms. A!!! You can tell she goes to the shooting range with her dad.
For dinner we had tacos with all the fixings and a rice Krispie treat for dessert.
Here's a pic of the potato sack races.
We had another beautiful day on Sunday.
The owner's dog is super friendly.
On Sunday morning we had cinnamon rolls, kolaches, a variety of cereals and yogurt for breakfast.
Our last photos before everyone left to go home.
The girls went canoeing while I stayed back and enjoyed the views.
I managed to get a couple of photos of the group on their trail ride.
I rode the fifth horse, Oreo. He wanted to stop and eat everything.
The younger girls, over seven, had an escort walk alongside the horse while on the trails.
The events on Sunday last until 1:30 p.m. However, we left around 9:30 a.m. to get a head start home. We didn't want to get home late. We were home by 2:30 p.m.
We had a great time. We are already planning our trip for next year! :) #lovekickapookamp
Hope you are having a great week!
Take care,
