A Little Christmas Cheer

Last Friday I went over to Fran's to help her add some Christmas cheer to her home.  She and her husband are hosting family for the Thanksgiving holidays and she wanted me to make a garland for her mantle and assist her in decorating the patio.

Here is a close up of the garland I made.  I used purple poinsettias with purple and gold ribbons.  LSU colors.  Geaux Tigers!!!  The gold looks a little silvery in the photos but it is really gold.

Well if you know me I don't stop there.  :)  Not when it comes to Christmas.  You have seen my home, right?  Ha ha!!!

She had decorated her trees and made a couple of arrangements.  Everything was looking so pretty.  If you know me you know I'm not going to stop there.  I asked her if she had any table linens and/or dishes she would want to display for the holidays.  She looked at me kind of funny and went along with me.  She got out some really pretty gold crackled chargers that really dressed up the table.  She had a very pretty set of china that had not seen the light of day in at least 12 years that ended up being a perfect match.  She had the perfect colored green set of glasses and a pretty set of gold silverware.

We added the pretty green balls hanging from the chandelier.  I think it turned out beautiful.

She had a beautiful flocked tree in the family room.

The patio was done in a whimsical theme.  I think it turned out really pretty.

You can see we added a second candy cane to the tree.  Is it just me or doesn't it make the tree look taller?

She hung the pretty Santa in the corner of the patio.

 Ornaments were hung at different lengths all around the patio.

Amber and Bella helped us out from time to time.  Giving us an encouraging nudge along the way.

I think everything turned out beautifully.

Restoring Old Chairs With A New Coat of Paint

Yesterday I restored a pair of old Hampton Bay chairs we have on our front porch.  You can see from the photo below the color of the chairs was almost totally gone.  You can see a hint of the original golden color.  The chairs are in mint condition so we didn't want to get rid of them.  Just restore them to their very best.

The first thing I did was clean them off really good and wipe them dry.

I chose Rust-Oleum's Universal Satin Spray Paint in Espresso Brown.  It has the paint and the primer all in one making it an easy peasy project.  The hardest thing was waiting for the paint to dry and it didn't take very long.

I think they came out beautiful!  In fact, I find myself walking out to the porch to look at them.  The color is GORGEOUS!!!  The chairs look brand new!

For now, I have put the old pillows back on the chair.  I will be making some new ones with fabric I already have left over from the curtains I made for the patio.

 

What do you think of our new shutters?  You may recognize them as the same ones we put on the side of the French doors in the backyard.

I am loving the new look!

 

  Now I need to paint the containers of the two planters.  I'm not sure if I'm going to paint them black or my new favorite color Espresso Brown.  :)

My next project is to paint the trash can by the pool.  It has faded and needs more color.  This paint and color will work perfectly.

Shade Charms

Last week while I was in Hobby Lobby I stumbled across Shade Charms.  I had never heard of them before and was quite intrigued.  I knew just the lamp I wanted to try and see if they really worked.

The lamp I chose has a glass base and a glass finial.  All that was missing a little more bling. 

It was so easy to add the charms.  The first thing I did was add a charm at every metal bar.  Next I went around and added a charm in the center.  I am so happy with the way the lamp looks.  The best part is I can remove them at any time and add them to another lamp shade.

An Inexpensive Way to Add Style to Your Gas Starter For Your Fireplace

Now that was a mouthful.  :)  Okay, so I didn't know what to title this post.  I tried googling to get the proper name and couldn't find anything on it so I asked the hubs.  He looked at me with a puzzled face and said "a gas starter for the fireplace".  So that is what we are going to call it for now.

If you have a fireplace, you probably have a fire starter box located near your fireplace.  Ours had a plain Jane white knob.  I'm not sure if it was ceramic or wooden.  I never thought much of it until I went to a friend's house (Kim's) and saw hers.  She had replaced the original plain knob with a beautiful knob from Hobby Lobby.  OMG!!!  I loved it!  I immediately asked if she would mind if I copied her and of course she said no.

So off I was to Hobby Lobby to find a beautiful knob for our fire starter.  Lucky for me Hobby Lobby had their knobs/handles on sale so I got mine for $5.00.  I am always looking for ways to add a little bling to my life.  :)

  

You can imagine the hubs reaction when I told him I wanted to change out the knob.  He couldn't see what was wrong with the one we had of course!  Lucky for me he usually goes along with most of my ideas so I replaced the knob.  And guess what?  The screw was too long!  So much for a quick change out.

So the hubs cut off enough of the screw for the door to close.  He always comes to my rescue.  :)

I love the way it looks.  I think it looks like a framed piece instead of a fire starter box without any style.

Now I have wanted to do this post for a long time.  Like maybe a year?  Can you believe I finally write it and Hobby Lobby has their knobs on sale?  Sounds like kismet to me.   Here are a few samples of what they have.  The prices range from $2.00 on up.  That's right...I said $2.00!!!
